Krups Mini Me Dolce Gusto Coffee Machine Review

krups mini meI decided to invest in a coffee machine, to save money on trips to the coffee shop and to save a little time in the morning. I needed something that was compact, easy to clean and made great coffee. After a little shopping around I opted for the Krups MiniMe. The machine is cute, compact and comes in a variety of colours.

The Machine

The cutesy styling and bright colours may not be to everyone’s taste, but the machine feels very well made, with good quality, durable plastics. The controls are all very clear and easy to understand. The MiniMe is incredibly easy to use. Slip a pod in and flip the lever. It heats up very quickly and is actually quicker than making an instant coffee. Clean up is also a breeze. Once you’ve made your coffee simply rinse the pod holder and drip try under the tap and you’re done.

Dolce Gusto Taste

Next comes the most important part – taste. After all, there’s no point in having a coffee maker, if you don’t like the coffee! There is a huge selection of Dolce Gusto capsules available. I’ve tried the Latte Machiatto, Mocha, Cappuccino, Americano and Lungo. The milky coffees are made from 2 pods, a milk one and the coffee pod. The milk froths up just as it should and in a glass the coffee looks fantastic.

Unfortunately it doesn’t taste nearly as good as it looks. They just cannot compete with a coffee made with real, fresh milk. The black coffees however are very good, so I would recommend sticking to them and adding your own milk.

Coffee Pod Costs

The capsules can be bought from the Dolce Gusto shop for £3.68 per box. Each box contains 16 pods, so you get 8 milky coffees per box or 16 black coffees. So that works out at about 23p or 46p per cup, which is pretty reasonable compared to buying at a coffee shop!

The Bear Bottom

The MiniMe coffee machine is a great budget coffee maker. It’s small, easy to use and makes a decent cup of coffee. But don’t expect this machine to help you kick your coffee shop addiction. The drinks are better than instant, but they cannot match a proper freshly ground coffee, made with fresh milk.

Pros: Great range of drinks, compact, affordable and easy to use

Cons: Milky drinks are expensive and don’t taste great, pods are quite a wasteful way to produce a drink, you are locked into one brand.
